I'm New

If you have never visited us before hopefully this will give you a rough idea of what goes on here!  You are welcome to join us if you’ve never been in a church before, if you don’t think you belong in a church, if you’ve got more questions than you know what to do with, or if you’re just curious.   We would love to meet you.

10AM SERVICE
north entranceSomeone will be on the door to welcome you in, feel free to chat or take a seat wherever you fancy. On your way in you’ll be given a newsheet that has lots of information about what happens in the life of St Ed’s.  You’ll also be given a service booklet; this has all the words that we’ll say during the service (called liturgy).  The service leader says all the words in the thin font and we say all the words in the bold font. When we come to sing hymns, all the words will be on the screen.

During the service we will sing songs of worship, pray prayers, listen to the Bible being read, receive teaching and celebrate communion together where we share bread and wine.  If you’re here for a baptism, then we’ll all head towards the font at the back for this. During communion everyone is welcome to the front to receive bread and wine or a blessing; this is completely optional there is no pressure to come forwards.

The service usually ends about 11:15am. Tea and coffee will be served often with a cake-like nibble. Feel free to chat to your heart’s content.

If you have any questions or need help anytime during the service, head towards the back and there will be someone there to assist.  If you’ve got any questions in advance, please do get in touch. See the contact information at the bottom of this page.

8AM & 6:30PM SERVICES
The 8am service is a quiet and reflective with no music but communion.  Everything you need will be in the service booklet given to you as you come in.

The 6:30pm service varies in style.  The monthly rotation includes traditional sung evensong, an ecumenical service, a Taizé service and a more contemporary gathering.  The person welcoming will let you know what you need as you come in.

FACILITIES
route to toiletsWe hope you make yourself at home during the service, feel free to move around and use the facilities on offer:

There are three toilets through the door at the front left of church including accessible toilets, baby changing facilities are available in the third toilet that’s through another door (just keep walking straight and you should find it).

There is a children’s area at the back on the left hand side and is fully stocked with every toy your child may want/need. Please don’t worry about your child making too much noise or running about. We love small people and the joy that they bring.

There is parking in the church car park but if it is full you can park on the roads surrounding the church for free.
